Terrace of the Oodi national library in Helsinki

Solid Accoya wood was chosen for the 1,100 m² terrace of the new national library in Helsinki, named “Oodi” and often cited as the best modern public library in the world. Far more than a library, this avant-garde building is part of the Finnish capital’s new cultural platform, a genuine gathering place at the heart of the city. The terrace, sloping at both ends, offers a vast outdoor meeting space. Thanks to the dimensional stability and superior durability of modified Accoya wood, rated for use class 4, it withstands the harsh Helsinki winter while keeping its appearance and stability season after season. The boards, spaced 6 mm apart, are laid with the LIGO N concealed fixing system from Fixinggroup, and a Teknos Woodex Aqua Woodoil finish, developed specifically for this project with the architects, preserves the look of the whole. The project was completed in 2019.
