The Dome, LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome

The Dome is a new educational hub at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome, in the Parioli district. The building completes the university's spaces with a learning centre designed in relation to its natural surroundings.

Developed across two levels for a total area of 1,500 square metres, it was built from scratch following the demolition of a former warehouse. It occupies a site to the south of the campus, near a small wood, parkland and the university's main square.

The architecture takes its cue from that greenery: the structure was custom-built in the spirit of a treehouse. The cladding is Kebony modified wood from certified sources, which gives the facade its character and its relationship to the site.

The project is the result of a collaboration between Alvisi Kirimoto and Studio Gemma. It won the public vote in the University Building of the Year category at the Archello Awards 2023. Photography: Marco Cappelletti.
