TravisMathew store, The Domain, Austin

TravisMathew is an American menswear brand in sport and lifestyle apparel, rooted in golf and tennis. Its store in The Domain district of Austin was given a specific facade treatment.

The exterior finish is rough sawn Kebony Clear, in 25 x 150 mm boards, charred using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique. Charring was carried out by Delta Millworks. This surface carbonisation produces a black, strongly textured face and improves the protection of exposed timber.

The substrate is Kebony modified wood, a softwood impregnated with a bio-based liquid that durably increases its stability and biological resistance. Combining a rough sawn surface with charring gives a highly textured facade that contrasts with neighbouring shopfronts and identifies the brand within an open-air retail district.
