Accoya for Gascoigne Park in London

Gascoigne Park, a lively public space in the Barking district of London, is testament to the versatility and durability of Accoya wood. The project set out to create a welcoming environment combining function with visual appeal. Around 15 cubic metres of bare FSC certified Accoya (C012330) were used, sourced through Moveart, a Swiss supplier known for its environmental commitment. The landscape architect Turkington Martin specified Accoya for various elements of the park: uncoated, the wood offers exceptional durability and a pleasant feel, with no risk of splinters for visitors. What makes the project unusual is its three circles of objects, the first mobile Moveart sculptures ever created: their movable nature lets users adapt shared public spaces as they wish, turning street furniture into a participatory installation.
