Under Pohutukawa beach house

The “Under Pohutukawa” house, built on Auckland’s west coast at Piha, is a remarkable example of timber architecture set within a forest of Pohutukawa trees. Designed as a year-round family retreat, it uses a timber frame reminiscent of tree forks. The project favours sustainable materials, with a contrast between the eucalyptus floors and the cedar wall panelling. The interior is protected with natural oil and wax finishes to preserve the ecological, breathable character of the wood.
