VBI is a French engineering company that designs bespoke equipment for sawmills and the wood-energy sector. Based in Barr, in Alsace, the company was created in 2004 by Vincent Bleesz, an automation engineer who worked at Ariane, Siemens, Hager and then Häwa. His son Jonathan joined in 2007, establishing a family structure. In 2009, VBI took over the premises of Häwa-France, the German manufacturer of electrical cabinets and sawmill equipment that remains its historic partner. VBI's core business is technological integration: the company supports primary wood-processing projects, from study and advice to installation and after-sales service. It works with German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian and French manufacturers, and steers its customers toward process automation and cost control. It operates in Alsace as well as in French-speaking Africa. The range covers the entire sawmill chain: log yards, debarkers, sawing lines, cross-cut saws, sorting and stacking systems, kilns, planers and planing lines (glulam, reconstituted solid wood, laminated solid wood, CLT), moisture-measurement and cubing tools. On the wood-energy side, VBI offers grinders and complete by-product recovery installations (horizontal and slow grinders, twin-rotor pre-grinders, refiners), biomass boilers, belt dryers, pellet and compressed-log lines. VBI highlights the selection of high-quality equipment from European partners and an approach geared toward energy efficiency and the valorization of wood residues.
